Emily Simonson, Editor

Emily Simonson acquires rigorous works of journalism and voice-driven nonfiction, primarily in the fields of history, current events, social issues, culture, and religion. She is especially drawn to projects that challenge our understanding of history, those that take on a hidden system, and anything with a philosophical bent—especially if it encourages us to live a bit differently.

Her titles include Fathoms by Rebecca Giggs, winner of the 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction; The Great Displacement by Jake Bittle, a finalist for the 2022 Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction, and New York Times bestseller Just Add Water by Katie Ledecky. Forthcoming titles include What My Father and I Don’t Talk About by Michele Filgate, We Are Eating the Earth by Michael Grunwald, and Kicking the Hornet’s Nest by Daniel Zoughbie. Even more forthcoming titles include a groundbreaking reimagining of our history through the female line from archeologist and prehistorian Rebecca Wragg Sykes, an exposé of the corporate bankruptcy system from business reporter Lily Jamali, and a memoir from the first female chief lifeguard of Rockaway Beach.

A graduate of Seattle Pacific University and the Denver Publishing Institute, Emily is from Tacoma, Washington.
